Calvin James Hale

Calvin James Hale was born on Thursday May 20th, 2010 at 2:22pm. I had gone to the doctors on Wednesday and the doc said that I was dilated to a 3 and that they were going to induce me the next day at 11am. Well, Calvin couldn't wait till 11. Around 3am on Thursday I woke up having contractions and I was pretty sure I was leaking. I waited for about an hour before I woke up Cliff to make sure it was the real deal. And then about an hour later after we were really sure that the contractions weren't going away we went to the hospital.

After being in the hospital for about an hour, the nurse asked if I wanted an epidural now or later. The contractions were definitely picking up at this point so I said yes. I was really nervous about getting the epidural but it was pretty much painless and as soon as it took effect I was feeling great!

During the labor process, Calvin's heart rate kept dropping which was very concerning. The nurse put me on oxygen and kept making me switch what side I was lying on. They think his umbilical cord was getting pinched somehow and since my water had broken already there wasn't anything to cushion him. They were able to put fluid back around him and that seemed to help. The nurse said that there might be a possibility of an emergency c-section if it kept happening. I was getting a little scared and nervous at this point. But luckily the fluid helped and his heart rate was pretty stable during the rest of the process.

By around 1:30 it was time to start pushing but we had to wait till the doctor got there because he was in the middle of a c-section with another patient. He finally got there around 2pm and after 20 minutes of pushing, Calvin was born! Unfortunately during labor Calvin had pooped and during delivery he inhaled and swallowed the meconium. They had doctors there to take care of him right after he was born but they had to take him the NICU for a couple of hours to make sure everything was ok. The nurse laid him on my chest for about 15 seconds before they took him away.

Needless to say it was the longest wait till Calvin was finally released and I could actually hold my baby! Thankfully everything was ok with him, and he's been really healthy and happy since then! Cliff and I have really enjoyed our first couple of weeks of parenthood. It's definitely been more of a challenge than I thought, but it's been worth it! It's crazy to think that Calvin is only 11 days old but he has already changed so much since he was born. We love him lots and lots!!

Outdoor Adventures

Today we went on a hike to Battle Creek Falls. It was the first time we had been there and we really liked it. It was a pretty easy hike, and there were lots of places to go exploring at so that made it a lot of fun. We plan on going back sometime in the summer when the plants are more alive.

On the way up!The Falls

A little stream we found with a small pond. The pond had some fishes that we were able to see so that was fun :)

We really love going hiking and are going to have to find some new spots in the area. If you have any suggestions, let us know!

Valentines Day

For Valentines Day, I woke up Sunday morning and made a yummy breakfast for Cliff and me. Since we were up so early and it was such a nice day and we didn't have church till 1 we decided to go on a walk down by Provo River. It was a lot of fun! :)

Aren't we so cute!

My pregnant belly (my normal clothes are getting a little too tight now!)

We saw duckies on our walk. Next time we go we will have to bring bread to feed them!

It was a really fun morning and we have decided that we might have to make Sunday morning walks a tradition.

Birthday Time!

This Monday was my 21st birthday! Woo! And since I'm mormon and pregnant I got totally wasted to celebrate! Haha, not! Never the less, it was still a fun day!

My parents had sent me a package that arrived on Saturday and they had given me earrings and a necklace so I made sure to wear them on my actual birthday. Also in the package was super cute baby clothes from my sister-in-law (thank you Liz, I can't wait till the baby comes so I can dress him up!). On monday, my sister had fresh cinnamon rolls from a local bakery delivered to me during the day and they were a yummy surprise! Cliff had to work in the morning, so while he was at work he sent me 21 text messages that each had a reason why he loved me! :) They were very sweet :)

When Cliff got home, we went to the Macaroni Grill for dinner which was delicious except we got full really fast so we had leftovers (for those of you that know Cliff, this does not happen very often!). Our waitor asked if we were celebrating anything and we said my birthday so at the end the waitor brought out a huge piece of cholately chocolate cake and sang happy birthday in Italian. It was pretty good cake except we were so full we could only take a few bites!

Later that night, some friends came over for more cake and played games. Luckily, this time we could enjoy the cake because we weren't so full! It was a lot of fun but sadly enough we didn't take any pictures...Neither Cliff and I are very good at remembering to take pictures. We'll have to be better once the baby comes!

I just wanted to say thanks for all the birthday love from everyone! It was a really fun day!

Something new

So since I haven't posted anything new in a long time, I figured a new post was in order. The most exciting thing that has happened since last post was that we found out we are having a boy! Here are some pictures from the ultrasound!

We will most likely be naming the baby Calvin James Hale. He has been moving tons now which has been really fun to feel. And now sometimes you can even see him kick from the outside. Clifford has felt him move and I swear the baby loves the sound of Clifford's voice. Whenever he talks, the baby starts moving like crazy! I notice it the most when Cliff is reading outloud. We've been reading the Harry Potter books together and just finished the seventh a couple of weeks ago. Cliff has never read the books before and it was fun to read them again!
Back to pregnancy talk though, I've just been getting bigger and bigger now and I defintely have a baby belly now! My pants still button but when I sit down it's a little too tight :P Here are pictures of my belly as it's been growing!

18 Weeks

21 Weeks (I could still fit into my wedding dress, hehe)

23 Weeks

25 Weeks

I'm now 26 weeks and every day I'm just getting bigger. But it's fun! (I have to remind myself it's the baby that's making me get bigger, and I'm not just gaining unneccessary weight, hehe)

In other news, school has been going really well. Cliff and I have really similar schedules so we get to see a lot of each other which is awesome!! Cliff has been substitute teaching and really really likes it and I'm in the process of trying to find an internship. I think I have something lined up but I still need to confirm it all. But that's what's been going on with us!

Baby Update

Today we had another doctor's appointment and everything is going great! The doctor said the possible pain I've been having could just be muscle spasms or cramps and not gallbladder problems which I'm happy about. Muscle cramps sound a lot more managable then gallbladder problems :/

The baby is getting bigger and we heard the heartbeat again which is so fabulous!! The baby has been moving around like crazy today which has been fun to feel! Cliff is getting jealous, but I told him it's only fair. If I had to be sick for three and a half months, I deserve to feel the baby move first!!

At the doctor's visit, I found out that I haven't really gained any weight yet, but I swear my tummy is getting bigger. I feel like it is starting to stick out more and more. And I've been wanting to eat so much more now then I ever have. Some days I feel like I am constantly eating!! I'm thinking the weight gain is going to catch up with me soon!!

We made our appointment for the ultrasound on January 6th, so we will be able to find out if it's a boy or girl! We are very excited :) We aren't positive about names yet but right now we are thinking Calvin for a boy and Ruby if the baby is a girl. It will be so nice to finally know!

We will keep you updated :)
